Masdar City aims to be a pioneering a “greenprint” for how cities can accommodate rapid urbanization and dramatically reduce energy, water and waste.
The city, which combines ancient Arabic architectural techniques with modern technology, aims to be naturally cooler by capturing prevailing winds in order to maximise outdoor thermal comfort conditions. When complete, 40,000 people will live in Masdar City, with an additional 50,000 commuting every day to work and study.
AESG were appointed to provide specialist sustainability and Estidama consultancy through the concept master plan, detailed master plan and public realm design of the City. AESG’s work includes not only Estidama consultancy but also outdoor comfort simulation analysis (wind and shade analysis) as well as developing a first of a kind framework for guiding and assessing the sustainability of the public realm design.
