AESG worked on the competition team with a leading architectural, MEP and structural design team to deliver a ground-breaking and inclusive Pavilion design planned for Dubai Expo 2020. With the Expo 2020’s key sustainability performance objectives at the forefront of the design, AESG’s multi-disciplinary team worked on integrating these holistically throughout the Pavilion. With key focus on the visitor experience throughout Expo, these strategies included energy and water reduction measures, sustainable material sourcing, improved outdoor thermal comfort and visitor experience, landscaping and ecology enhancement as well as waste management and fire life safety. The Façade team pushed the thermal performance of the building envelope and undertook façade optimisation by parametrically designing fins to external shade the glazing. Another key design aspect for the team was to ensure the deconstructability of the pavilion at the end of the 6-month Expo period. Though considered Construction methods and material selection as well as providing advisory on the recycling, relocation and returning of building materials at the end of the Expo.
The Emirates pavilion at Expo 2020 will provide a fantastic educational
visitor experience whilst showcasing the very best ideas about the future of aviation and sustainability.
