Steve Liong

Steve Liong brings over fifteen years of mission critical and data centre experience across the Middle East to his role as Commercial Director of AESG’s new Mission Critical division, a practice built to deliver genuinely multidisciplinary consulting to one of the fastest-growing data centre markets in the world.

What sets Steve apart is breadth. His career spans the full lifecycle of complex projects – from front-end advisory and commercial structuring through to construction delivery, claims, and dispute resolution – he’s done it at the highest level.

As Regional Director at RED Engineering, he led the commercial operation of one of the world’s foremost mission critical design consultancies across the Middle East. At Bechtel and other Tier 1 contractors, he delivered programme-scale projects where rigour and governance are non-negotiable. Across it all, he has led or commercially directed over $1 billion in data centre and mission critical projects for hyperscalers, colocation operators, and sovereign clients.

Steve also brings a strong track record in technology-led innovation, having built and launched a construction AI platform that applies machine learning to project risk and delivery — proving that new thinking and enterprise-grade discipline aren’t mutually exclusive. It’s that combination of entrepreneurial instinct and institutional credibility that defines his approach: find the better way to do things, then deliver it to a standard that serious clients expect.

At AESG, Steve is applying that mindset to build a Mission Critical practice that pairs deep technical capability with commercial sharpness and the kind of client focus that comes from having sat on every side of the table.
