Increased extreme weather events are expected to continue as a result of climate change, and as such development planning needs to consider climate change risks including increased flooding. Flood risk assessments allow for the identification of historical and present day flood events, as well as modelling future predicted flood events based on climate change scenarios.
Aside from risk management, flood risk assessments are required by many local and national authorities at the planning application and approval stage. Conducting up-front assessments helps to plan for and mitigate flood risk to safe-guard the development.
