Continuous Cost Planning during all design stages provides the client with regular cost updates, visibility on project profitability and management of budget. Throughout these design stages the AESG Cost Management team will ensure that the lead design consultant adheres to the project budget costs by supporting the project teams, and client, with regular detailed Cost Plans itemising the approximate quantities and where possible measuring all detailed quantities. Once design is complete our team will produce a detailed Bills of Quantities for issue to the Contractor.
During the design development stage we will establish a “design to budget” which the design consultant shall adhere too. The AESG Cost Management team will assess the costs at all stages to ensure the design meets each of the elemental “design to budget” targets. The Cost Plans will be prepared in line with RICS NRM standards at all design stages. It is important to maintain Value Management during these stages with regular workshops and Value Engineering (VE) option analysis. VE can often be misinterpreted and misused on projects by simply omitting or reducing scope. It is important to focus on the true definition of VE which is to “solve problems and identify and eliminate unwanted costs, while improving function and quality. The aim is to increase the value of the material, satisfying the materials performance requirements at the lowest possible costs”. The AESG Cost Management team implements VE at the early stages of design which is where most savings can be realised.
